The beginnings
Many times is turning back in my mind the story of how I was started to photograph, or better how I was discovered the photography. Everything was completely casual, I didn’t grow in an artists family or always dreamed about becoming a photographer like Bresson or Sieff or wanted always to shoot fashion photos or I was searching for the perfect landscape image etc., none of this were passing from my mind before of discovering this world. At that time my passion was, the mountain and that was full filling al my free spaces, thinking better the mountain has remained a constant in the middle of my passions. I remember that I was somewhere in the Alps, maybe near to Punta Kurtz, climbing for reaching the top with some of my friends, was a nice an sunny day and our climb was going very well when suddenly the wind has started to play with the snow from the north face of the mountain and make it fly on the air… in front of us I saw two of our friends that were trying to pass the cliff hardly in the middle of that little snow storm, and at that point I don’t know why I remember that in my back pack I was carrying one photo camera an Canon EOS 3000, my first analogic camera that someone has convinced me to buy but that I have used very few times. But there I wanted that image, the moment was amaising for me, so I have stopped my climb taken the camera from my backpack and shoot a single photo.
Was something instinctive and casual, at that point I didn’t know about aperture, exposure, dof, composition etc. I was simply taken a photo and did not thinked anymore to that moment fore many time, better till I was finished the film on the camera and send it for developing, and in that period for finishing a film I was needing months. When I have taken the photos from development the first thing that I have discovered was that I have loaded the camera with a B&W film and I was no so happy till I see again the image from that day, and was exactly what I have seen there, better to me was like being there again and there I have discovered what a simple image can do. And after more that 10 years from that day and a huge quantity of images I am continuously searching for that emotion and that kind of image…
